Hi, My Dear Reader!

I have been blogging for one year and eight months. I have picked topics from the website: answerthepublic.com, my interests and current events in the world. Now I'm thinking it might be time to go back to the basics in skincare—skincare routines, to be exact.

I'm thinking maybe my content has been too advanced, since I don't get any comments here on WordPress or on social media. You tell me? If you have any criticism or development ideas, PLEASE tell me. I would SO like to hear.💜

How to Take Care of Dry Skin – Morning, Evening & All Year Round

Dry skin is more than just a winter problem. Whether you're facing freezing Nordic winds or blasting air conditioning, dryness can hit at any time. The key is to build consistent habits that protect and support your skin—morning, evening, and throughout the seasons. Here’s a simple, smart guide to keeping your skin happy all year.🥰

You can spot a dry skin type by these signs:

  • Skin feels tight, especially after cleansing

  • Looks flaky, rough, or dull

  • Fine lines may be more visible

  • Rarely gets oily or shiny

  • Makeup may cling to dry patches

It’s consistent—not just a temporary issue.

Morning Routine: Start With Protection

Your skin needs a shield to face the day. Here’s how to build it:

1. Cleanse gently Skip foaming cleansers and anything that makes your skin feel tight after washing. Go for a cream or oil-based cleanser that leaves your skin feeling soft—not squeaky.

2. Hydrate fast Right after cleansing, apply a hydrating toner or essence while your skin is still damp. Look for ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or aloe vera.

3. Lock it in Use a moisturizer with rich, nourishing ingredients like ceramides, squalane, or shea butter. Don't forget your neck and chest.

4. Sunscreen always Yes, even in Finland. Even in winter. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin from UV damage, which worsens dryness and accelerates aging. The snow reflects sunlight on your skin. That's good to remember.

Evening Routine: Repair and Replenish

This is when your skin gets to rest and rebuild. Help it out and help yourself out. When your skin feels good, you feel good. It's a piece of your everyday life happiness.

1. Cleanse without stripping Double cleansing is great if you wear makeup or SPF. Start with an oil cleanser, then follow with your gentle morning cleanser.

2. Add layers of hydration Use a hydrating serum (like one with niacinamide or panthenol) to calm and replenish moisture. Then apply a thicker moisturizer or even a night cream.

3. Use face oil (optional) If your skin is dehydrated, pat a few drops of face oil (jojoba, rosehip, or marula) over your moisturizer. This helps seal everything in.

Dehydrated skin lacks water, while dry skin lacks oil.

  • Dehydrated skin is a temporary condition caused by things like weather, diet, or harsh products. It can happen to any skin type—even oily skin—and often feels tight, looks dull, and may show fine lines or flakiness.

  • Dry skin is a skin type, not just a condition. It produces less sebum (oil) than normal, and tends to feel rough, flaky, or itchy year-round.

In short: dehydrated = water issuedry = oil issue.

4. Skip harsh treatments Avoid products with alcohol, strong acids, or fragrances. They do more harm than good for dry skin.

Year-Round Habits That Make a Difference

Dry skin doesn’t take a season off, so neither should your care.

Use a humidifier – Indoor heating and air conditioning both dry out the air. A humidifier helps keep your skin hydrated, especially while you sleep.

Stay hydrated – Drinking water won’t magically fix dry skin, but being dehydrated definitely makes it worse. Keep your water intake steady.

Protect your skin barrier – This means no over-exfoliating, no harsh soaps, and giving your skin time to heal if it feels tight or irritated.

Adjust with the seasons – In winter, switch to thicker creams. In summer, you might get away with lighter textures—but don’t drop hydration entirely.

Listen to your skin – Dry patches, flaking, or redness are signs you need to slow down and go back to basics.

My Final Violet Thought

I think every skincare blog should cover the basics. So I will continue this in my following blog posts from this point forward, covering all skin types.

It's good to remember, dry skin isn’t something you fix once—it’s something you manage. But with the right habits, your skin can stay comfortable, strong, and healthy no matter the season. Whether you're dealing with Arctic winds or just sensitive skin year-round, consistency is your best friend.

If you find it hard to keep a routine going, start small—cleansing, moisturiser, SPF.
