Hi, my lovely violet community!
I have been using Skin Rocks by Caroline Hirons, The Antioxidant Serum, since it launched in 2024. (These are not affiliate links.) I have refills ready in my cabinet. That is another factor why I love this brand. The following quote from their website perfectly sums up this product.
CAROLINE HIRONS SAYS
Clinically proven to prevent premature ageing and defend your skin, The Antioxidant is your daily coat of armour from environmental damage and UV light. Amplified by an advanced complex of highly effective antioxidants, this is more than just a vitamin C serum, and works to reveal, support and protect luminous and healthy skin.
When it comes to skincare, the term “antioxidant” gets thrown around like confetti. But not all antioxidant serums are built the same, and Skin Rocks’ The Antioxidant Serum is aiming to be more than just another bottle on your shelf. Created by skincare authority Caroline Hirons, this serum comes with serious credentials—and a serious price tag. It's worth it, let me tell you why.
Before you read any further, please review my previous post on how to store your skincare products to ensure they last as long as they should, meaning until the expiration date indicated on the bottom of the jar, tube, or bottle.
What Is It?
The Antioxidant Serum is part of Skin Rocks' curated skincare line, focused on results rather than marketing jargon. It claims to shield skin from daily environmental stress (think pollution, UV exposure, and blue light) using a blend of antioxidants, peptides, and barrier-supporting ingredients. Here is a quote from their website.
Clinicals
Our formula is clinically proven to… Provide antioxidant protection against environmental and UV-induced damage.* Decrease the appearance of red spots in 4 weeks.** Significantly decrease the appearance of wrinkles in 8 weeks.** Be suitable for sensitive skin.***
*Based on an independent clinical ex-vivo study. This serum is not a sunscreen.**Based on an independent clinical study of 25 participants, using the product daily over 8 weeks. ***Based on an independent clinical patch test, under dermatological supervision.
🟣The star ingredients:
Ectoin – a powerhouse stress-protection molecule
Peptides – help support skin structure and resilience
Coenzyme Q10 and Vitamin C derivatives – classic antioxidant combo
Squalane – lightweight hydration without greasiness
No fragrance, no irritants. I added the key ingredients from their site, so I get them right.😉
Key ingredients
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate - Renowned for its stability and great affinity for skin, which aids penetration, this vitamin C precursor is a powerful antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibitor that helps protect the skin's collagen levels, reinforce the skin barrier and prevent hyperpigmentation. Acetyl Zingerone - A next-generation antioxidant that works synergistically with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate to boost its efficacy, helping to further reduce signs of photoageing and improving the skin's defences. Fermented Green Tea Seed Extract - A fermented plant extract naturally rich in antioxidant phenols and tocopherols (vitamin E) to help protect the skin from free radical damage. Acetyl Tetrapeptide-2 - A brightening peptide that is shown to boost the skin's antioxidant ability, shielding it from the effects of pollution and visibly reducing the appearance of dark spots and the signs of ageing.

Texture + Application
This serum has a smooth, almost lotion-like texture—not sticky, not watery. It glides on easily and sinks in fast. You don’t have to wait around before layering your moisturizer or SPF. One to two pumps is enough for the whole face, and it plays well with other products. I tend to think that more is more when it comes to skincare product application, but when I use the recommended amount, I notice it's sufficient.🤷🏻♀️😂
If you're tired of serums that pill under makeup or feel tacky, this one fixes that problem. The texture is perfect: not runny, no strong scent, although you can buy this with the Skin Rocks' signature scent.
How It Performs
This isn't a serum that gives instant gratification. You won’t wake up with glass skin overnight—but that’s not the point. After 2–3 weeks of consistent use, I noticed:
Skin looked calmer, more even-toned
Subtle brightness (not glow stick bright, but healthy-skin bright)
No breakouts, irritation, or weird reactions
My 45-year-old skin looks plumper, which is always a huge ➕!
If you live in a city, spend your days in front of screens, or have sensitive skin that gets easily stressed, this serum earns its keep.
Who’s It For?
Sensitive skin? ✅—no fragrance, alcohol, or harsh actives.
Oily/combination skin? It hydrates lightly, doesn’t clog.
Dry skin? You’ll still need a richer moisturizer, but this is a solid protective base layer.
Aging skin? The peptides and antioxidants have your back in the long term.
Basically, it’s made for skin that needs defending—without the drama. Prevention is one of the keys to a glowing skin.
The Downside
I'll be honest: it’s not cheap. At around €75 for 30ml, it’s an investment, which is why it is so important to know how to store it correctly. (⬅️ My previous blog post.)There are other antioxidant serums out there for less—but few that match this level of formulation quality, ingredient integrity, and overall user experience.
Additionally, if you’re expecting visible anti-aging results overnight, this product may not be suitable for you. It focuses on prevention and protection, rather than dramatic transformations.
My Violet Verdict
Skin Rocks’ The Antioxidant Serum doesn’t scream for attention—it just works quietly and effectively in the background. If you're looking for a reliable, non-irritating antioxidant step that actually delivers on its claims, this is one of the best options available.
💜Thoughtfully formulated 💜Skin-barrier friendly 💜Plays well with others 💜Worth it—if you can swing the price
Final Rating: 4.5/5 (Points off for price, not performance.)
Have a refreshing week and take in the autumn colors in nature.☕️🍂
Nina.
