Two “Clean” Skincare Products That Actually Work—for Me

Hi, Violet Gang!
Here is my last post before my summer break in July. I wanted to follow up on my previous week's post, "Why doesn't 'clean' skincare work for me?"
Last week, I studied myself on why so many “clean” skincare products have disappointed me. It’s not that they’re part of the "Clean Movement"—it’s that my extra-sensitive skin doesn’t tolerate just any formula, no matter how elegant and cool the branding. I mean sensitive to the point where when I feel the tiniest hairs on my face… I need to deal with.
I don’t buy into the “clean” hype because I believe there are rules and regulations in place to protect us. In my previous paragraph, I used the word "movement" with "clean" because that's what I believe it is.
However, I continued testing.
This week, I want to introduce two exceptions: Moi Forest’s Forest Glow Serum and La Belle Lune’s Mayan Dew. Both are marketed as clean, but more importantly, they absorb easily into the skin, are effective, and are thoughtfully formulated—genuinely good skincare.
🌲Moi Forest – Forest Glow Serum🌳
From the forests of Finland, with a focus on skin barrier and microbiome health.
Moi Forest is a Finnish brand built around forest-derived ingredients, with an emphasis on sustainability, skin-barrier support, and—interestingly—live probiotics. Forest Glow is their hero serum, and despite my initial skepticism, it really works for me.
It’s a lightweight oil-based serum that absorbs quickly and leaves no residue. More importantly, it quickly absorbs, leaving my skin feeling hydrated and soft.
🌿What stood out to me:
No greasy afterfeel, even though it’s an oil-based serum
No feeling of product sitting on my skin
Texture is wonderful and fast absorbing
Glass pipette bottle
The scent is pure forest—piney, earthy, and grounding—but subtle. It’s gentle enough for reactive skin types and could be a great gateway product if you’re nervous about oils.👈🏻
And yes—it really does contain live probiotics. This isn’t just clever marketing; it’s part of what makes the serum feel unique on the skin.
💜La Belle Lune – Mayan Dew✨
A UK-based indie brand blending botanical science with an old-world apothecary vibe. I love the mystical and mysterious product names, etc.
Mayan Dew is a rich, hydrating serum that behaves more like a thick essence. At first glance (glass bottle, moonlit branding), I expected it to be more about vibe than results. I was completely wrong.
It’s deeply hydrating without being sticky and layers magically with other products in my routine.
🌜What I loved:
Hydration lasts—thanks to aloe, fermented extracts, and botanicals, not just hyaluronic acid
My skin looked plumper and calmer overnight
The soft floral scent fades quickly—no lingering perfume
The glass pipette bottle
Caveat: This formula isn’t ultra-minimalist. If your skin reacts to plant extracts, patch test first. That said, it feels intentionally blended.
Violet-tinted Final Thoughts
Am I a clean beauty convert? No. But I am a fan of nature-friendly and barrier-friendly skincare that works, especially when it doesn’t rely on greenwashing or fear-based claims.
Both of these products are considered “clean,” but more importantly, they’re effective and non-irritating. And for someone with over-sensitive skin, that’s a win.
They’ve earned a permanent place on my cabinet in the lilac bathroom. Do you need skincare tips for summer? Check my post!
That’s it. I’m off to my summer break.
