Hi Violets!
Last Wednesday, I went in for my usual microneedling facial at my favorite local beauty spot, Ancilla. It’s a monthly ritual that my skin has come to love. But this time, something unexpected happened. During the session, Anne (my amazing facialist) pointed out that my skin looked a bit more reactive than usual. I didn’t feel anything odd, but then I remembered: that morning, I had used my CurrentBody LED red light mask (not an ad, just what I use!) before the appointment.
That little moment got me curious. Could combining LED therapy and microneedling actually be too much? Or is it a power couple in the world of skincare?
So, I did what any curious skincare lover would do—I dove into the research. And now I’m sharing what I found with you!
What Is Microneedling, Really?
Microneedling might sound intense, but it's a gentle and effective skin treatment that uses fine, sterilized needles to create tiny, controlled punctures in the skin. These micro-injuries prompt your body to go into healing mode, producing more collagen and elastin—the building blocks of firm, youthful skin.
Your skin heals in three phases:
Inflammation – Blood flow increases, bringing nutrients and oxygen to the area.
Proliferation – Fibroblasts (your skin’s repair crew) start producing collagen and elastin.
Remodeling – New skin tissue matures and strengthens over time.
The results don’t show up overnight, but trust me—by week 4 to 6, you’ll start noticing smoother texture, improved tone, and that lit-from-within glow.
Why I Love Microneedling
Microneedling has become one of my favorite ways to refresh my skin. It’s helped me with uneven tone, lingering acne scars, and even fine lines. Plus, there’s something satisfying about knowing my skin is rebuilding from the inside out.
Some of the standout benefits:
Softer, smoother texture
Faded scars and fine lines
Smaller-looking pores
Boosted product absorption (yes, up to 300%!)
Fast recovery—usually just a little redness for a day or two
It’s also suitable for all skin tones and types, without the hyperpigmentation risks some treatments carry.
Does LED Light Therapy Work With Microneedling?
Yes—and it’s kind of a dream team.
Red LED light therapy is known for helping skin heal, calming inflammation, and boosting collagen. When you combine it with microneedling, it can actually speed up recovery and enhance results.
Here’s what happens when you use LED light (especially red and near-infrared wavelengths) after microneedling:
It helps fibroblasts create more collagen
It boosts your cells' energy (via ATP production)
It reduces inflammation and oxidative stress
In fact, some experts recommend using LED immediately post-needling to calm redness and support skin repair. Many people (myself included) notice that the post-treatment redness fades more quickly when red light is involved.
My Experience Combining the Two
Using LED and microneedling on the same day might have made my skin slightly more reactive that time, but overall, I’ve seen great results from the combo. My skin looks brighter, clearer, and feels more resilient. I’ve learned it’s best to follow professional advice and space them out when needed, but done right, they really complement each other.
My Final Thoughts
Microneedling is one of those treatments that keeps giving. It boosts collagen, smooths texture, fades scars, and even helps your products work better. And when you add LED light into the mix—especially red light—you get even more benefits with less downtime.
The science backs it, and I’ve seen it firsthand. Just be sure to listen to your skin, work with a trusted provider, and find the rhythm that works best for you. Your skin has amazing healing power—sometimes it just needs the right nudge (and a little red light glow) to shine.
Have you tried microneedling with LED light? I’d love to hear your experience. Drop a comment or question below!
Love, Nina
